MIDRESHET IS MOVING!
MIDRESHET IS MOVING!
Ever since we opened our doors in 1987, Midreshet Moriah has called the same place home: the campus of Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Our central location, with chesed right next door and our unique dorm-on-one-floor, has served twenty-eight years of young women (1,973 of them!) as they grew in Torah and Yir’at Shamayyim in the heart of Yerushalayyim.
Just before Pesach, however, long after we had completed recruiting next year’s students, Shaare Zedek’s administration informed us that due to the hospital’s fast-growing needs for additional space (and its plan to ultimately replace our building with a much bigger one), we would have to find a new home – as of September, just six months away!
After an intense search throughout the Jerusalem area, we were fortunate, Baruch Hashem, to find a new home for Midreshet Moriah, just a short walk from our current home! We find ourselves with mixed feelings: We, and almost three decades of alumnae, feel deeply connected to our current building, take comfort in its familiarity, and treasure so many great memories of learning, growth, friendship, and fun. We would happily have stayed where we spent our first thirty years. On the other hand, although this move was not something we initiated, we expect it to enhance Midreshet Moriah in several important ways:
· We are excited to have a building all to ourselves where we can truly feel at home.
· Our new building is set within its own picturesque, charming grounds, terraced tree-shaded gardens with lots of spots to sit and enjoy conversation with teachers and friends.
· We will enjoy the advantages of being part of the beautiful Jerusalem neighborhood of Bet Ha-Kerem, which will especially enhance our Shabbat experience.
· Our new building preserves many of the advantages of the old one: It’s just down the block from the Jerusalem Light Rail and the same shopping center which serves us today. And since we’re moving such a short distance (just a short walk from Shaare Zedek), our students will continue to have the opportunity to volunteer at Shaare Zedek, as generations of our students have done.
Until September, we will be working with planners and contractors to make our new building ready. As we do that, we are kicking off an intensive campaign of fundraising to enable us to make these changes. We will be turning to you -- parents, alumnae, and friends -- to help Midreshet Moriah build its future.
Stay tuned...
